The way of Christian life
If people of our time want to find themselves, they must empty themselves of
their selfishness and fill themselves with the
love
of God. This is the way of Christian life that Benedict XVI pointed out to the
faithful present this morning, Wednesday 27 June, in the Paul VI Hall at the
last General Audience before the break planned for the month of July. The weekly
appointments with the Pope will be resumed on Wednesday 1 August and will be
held at the Papal Residence in Castel Gandolfo.
“Human logic”, Benedict XVI explained, proposing a reflection on the
“'Christological hymn” contained in St Paul's Letter to the Philippians, “often
seeks its own fulfilment in power, in domination, in powerful means: man
continues to wish to build the Tower of Babel with his own efforts, to reach
God's heights by himself, to be like God”. “Man”, he added, “does not find
himself by remaining in himself, affirming himself”; he only finds himself by
coming out of himself. Lastly, the Pope explained the importance of
genuflection.
