2012-06-28 Vatican Radio
(Vatican Radio ) - To mark the anniversary of the launch of the Vatican’s on- line news portal www.news.va, by Pope Benedict XVI on the eve of Saints Peter and Paul a year ago, Vatican Radio's Veronica Scarisbrick went round to call on Archbishop Claudio Celli who heads the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
Archbishop Celli began by making a surprise announcement, the launch of a Portuguese site within a year.
Asked for an assessment of this first year , he described it as positive backing it up with some current statistics which include 10 to 15.000 visitors each day who visit for an average of just over two minutes, 58% of whom are returning visitors to the site and another 41.8% all new .
While Archbishop Celli feels that news.va provides the Catholic Church with a good service he also highlights how non Catholics are welcome as well to find out more about Vatican news and about the Church in the world.
