Ottawa, 25. Addressing the challenge of the transmission of the faith in light of the rapid and profound societal changes. This is one of the central themes on which Canadian bishops – who began their Plenary Assembly yesterday - are reflecting. About 80 bishops, six of whom for the first time since their ordination, are participating in the meeting until 28 September at  Sainte-Adèle, in the Diocese of  Saint-Jérôme. In view of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization in Rome in October, the Assembly especially intends to examine their  pastoral activity and share their experiences in the archdioceses and dioceses of the country, in order to establish concrete proposals for a draft.

The Canadian Bishops will be able above all to examine the annual reports presented by various national and sectoral commissions of the Bishops' Conference including the reports by  organizations among which is Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council, a body established by the episcopate in 1984 with the main task of protecting the rights of Aboriginal peoples and of promoting relations and dialogue within the Catholic community and all of society.
