(Vatican Radio) Among the bishops attending the XIII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization is Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay and president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India.
“There is all over the world a certain desire for God,” he told Vatican Radio.
“I think the economic crisis which we are having…and then this Arab Spring; there is a certain restlessness in the soul of mankind, searching for something deeper – deeper roots. I think the deeper roots are God…and therefore this Synod should be able to really identify the problems, the desires, the aspirations of man – aspirations of the world – and be able to respond. I believe that Jesus Christ and His Gospel is a response, and able to answer the challenge of our times. If we can do it authentically, attractively, and appealing both to the mind and to the heart, that would be a tremendous contribution to the world.”
