AFRICA/NIGERIA - Boko Haram attacks a mosque: "It is an enemy of humanity", says the Social Communications Director of the Diocese of Maiduguri

Abuja - "Boko Haram is an enemy of humanity and does not hesitate to kill faithful Muslims. Its tactics is to commit atrocities against innocent civilians in order to maximize the terrorist impact on the population", says to Agenzia Fides Fr. Gideon Obasogie, Director of Social Communications of the Diocese of Maiduguri, capital of the State of Borno, in northern Nigeria, where this morning on July 17, a suicide bomber exploded in a mosque, killing at least 8 people.
The mosque attacked by the Boko Haram jihadist group is located in the London Ciki area of Maiduguri. "Over the last few months, Boko Haram attacked crowded places of Maiduguri and its suburbs, such as markets and hospitals. The jihadist group attacks civilians also because the latter have organized self-defense militias to try to limit their assaults", says Fr. Obasogie. On July 13, in a quadruple attack committed by suicide bombers, 19 people died, most of whom belonged to self-defense militias.
"Unfortunately, some politicians are involved in the phenomenon of Boko Haram. If there were no political interests, Boko Haram would no longer be a problem", concludes Fr. Obasogie.
